Lawyer Atta Akyea seeks bail for Melcom owner
Lawyer for the owner of Melcom, Atta Akyea, will be in court on Friday to seek bail for his client. Nana Boadu Nkansah Ayeboafo, owner of the collapsed Melcom building, has since been under police detention for allegedly constructing the shopping facility without permit.

The Melcom shopping mall was razed down to dust after claims were made about the structural strength of the mall by some staff.

81 victims were trapped in the rubble with 14 persons perishing after efforts by a combined rescue team of security personnel to rescue them.

Nana Boadu Nkansah Ayeboafo was implicated in the incident therefore leading to his detention. He was charged with negligence under the criminal code, Act 29 and kept in BNI custody to assist in investigations.

But his lawyer, Atta Akyea, says his client was unfairly treated and therefore will make a request for him to be bailed. Other persons have also been incarcerated by the police in connection with the Melcom disaster. Former Works Director at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Carl Henry Clerk and a co-Managing Director of Melcom were picked up by the police for interrogation.
