Football administrator and owner of Ghana Premier League side King Fiasal, Alhaji Karim Gruzah has called on government to intervene behalf of midfielder Andre Dede Ayew, whose exclusion from the Black Stars squad to the 2013 African Nations Cup has become topical.
Dede Ayew was excluded from the initial 24-man squad to the AFCON 2013 which will take place in South Africa, due to his inability to join the Black Stars team on Monday morning in Abu Dhabi as scheduled by Coach Kwesi Appiah.
The players were given a deadline of Saturday to return to the camp for a medical check-up by Ghana’s team doctors on Monday.
Though Dede Ayew was released by his club to meet the arrangements by the Ghana Football Association, he failed to meet the deadline.
Several reasons have been outlined by some football administrators and executives of the Ghana Football Association justifying the coach’s decision to exclude the mighty son of Black Stars legend Abedi Ayew Pele.
However, Alhaji Karim Gruzah has urged the Football Association to reconsider its decision and give him the benefit of the doubt because “the boy has been loyal to the team and if the boy is not sick he will willingly come to camp.”
He told Joy FM; “It is not late to include Dede in the team because the boy has been loyal to the team and if the boy is not sick he will willingly come to camp. This is the first time this thing is happening to him. This has happened in so many countries and so I think the government must interfere. Football without interference is no football.”
Meanwhile, the FA will on Wednesday release the list of the final 23-man squad for the 2013 AFCON.
The team has currently begun their training sessions in the Gulf region before they travel to South Africa for the tournament.
The 2013 African Cup of Nations will commence from January 19 to February 10.
