Tumble-down Kaneshie footbridge poses a threat to commuters

Danger looms in Kaneshie as a footbridge constructed on the highway poses a threat to the safety of numerous lives. A footbridge at the Kaneshie/Mallam highway is gradually deteriorating under very bad conditions.

The bridge has developed rust-brown iron bolts and gaping holes which are at the mercy of nature. The iron bars meant to support the bridge have decayed and the concrete floor frightfully left in a menacing manner. It has developed holes which tend to eat deep into the bridge.
A few days ago, Achimota Melcom shopping centre collapsed as a result of structural defects. 81 persons were trapped in the rubble, out of which 14 perished.

This disaster has since raised concerns about the way structures are set up in the country and the Kaneshie footbridge is another fear to several commuters and pedestrians who use it.

Some are forced to cross over the barbed wire due to the bedraggled nature of the bridge. This may have dire consequences in the future if no attention and care is drawn to it.
