Nii
Kwartei Titus Glover, New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Tema
East wants government to diversify the energy sector in order to meet
the needs of the Ghanaian populace.
Speaking on Oman FM's
political programme on Tuesday, Titus Glover reiterated the need for
government to mount solar panels across the country to resolve the
energy crisis that has befallen the nation.
He wants government to also turn its focus from just generating electricity by using gas or crude oil to biogas.
This, he believed, is a sure way to streamline the operations of the energy service providers in the nation.
According to him, it is about time government utilized other avenues to augment the energy needs of Ghanaians.
He said this in view of the tariff increments on the supply of electricity and water to consumers in the country.
The electricity tariffs, now stands at 78.9% while water tariffs have seen a major hike to 52 %.
The
NPP MP was of a strong view that the tariff increases would invariably
intensify the cost of production making it difficult for Ghanaian
workers to make ends meet.
“They (government) should try and diversify our energy needs...People are suffering. People are extremely suffering.”
