National Security Advisor Should Resign Over CIA Connection – Sekou Nkrumah

The son of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's first President, has called on the National Security Advisor, Brigadier-General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah to resign from his post over his claims that he once worked with the Central Intelligence Agency in the US.

After being lambasted by a section of the public and political figures in the country, Brigadier-General Nunoo-Mensah revealed on Accra-based Adom FM that he, as an intelligence expert, was cocksure opposition New Patriotic Party officials are the masterminds of the current labour unrest.

He blamed the opposition party for fueling the labour unrests and offered to only provide evidence in court to back his claims.

“I have enough experience, working with CIA and other intelligence agencies, to say that NPP is behind these things.

“I’m experienced enough to know that these are politically motivated demonstrations. They are hiding behind others, like the Trojan horse, to destroy the nation. “If it’s not political, why is it that NPP people are insulting me? Nana Akomea and others. I know this is part of the political struggle.

“I know everybody in NPP. In 1996 I stood on NPP ticket, if you don’t know, so I know everybody there. They are the ones behind it,” the retired army officer declared.

Addressing the issue in an interview with Peacefmonline.com, Sekou Nkrumah, son of Ghana's first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, posited that the disclosure by the National Security Advisor proves his disloyalty to the country.

He found it seemingly treacherous for him to have worked with the CIA, because to him, that signifies that he (General Nunoo-Mensah) never represented the interest of his country.

According to Sekou Nkrumah, such revelation is a clear indication that the Brigadier went against the tenets of his motherland and on this basis, has no business staying in government.

“We don’t do that because that is a foreign agency, and then as you know, the CIA was involved in the overthrow of Nkrumah. So, that is example that tells you that anyone who obviously worked at any time with foreign intelligence agency, obviously has no business being in government because once upon a time, he represented the interest of another country and that will obviously go against the interest of Ghana," he stated categorically, further expounding that “that is something that the National Security Advisor should resign for. If he has worked for a foreign intelligence, then I think he has no business being in government.”
