The
Director of Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) has called on
Ghanaians to cooperate with his outfit and assist them in their
investigations.
Mr. Mortey Akpadzi appealed to Ghanaians to
volunteer vital information that will help the Office come out with
appropriate results regarding the rot in the Ghana Youth Employment and
Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA).
He assured the
informants that their "identity will be kept confidential. We want any
piece of information that can assist us. We would wish people didn’t
just speculate. We would wish people could come to us with concrete
information or even indications…We don’t expect people to bring us
proofs.”
Speaking to Radio Gold, he also pledged his outfit's commitment to unearth the truth in the GYEEDA report.
“It’s
important not only to our outfit but to Ghana as a whole because it
involves suspected malfeasance. All Ghana has read some report that
appeared on the internet, although from what we have seen, it’s not the
same report. There’s genuine concern about knowing the truth of the
matter and His Excellency is concerned to know the truth; and it’s our
duty to provide His Excellency with what the facts are and not
speculations.” he stated.
President John Mahama, in his attempt to fight corruption in the agency, tasked the EOCO to look into the report.
The
report which indicted several persons and courted controversy in the
country was referred to the EOCO for further investigations to be held
to name and shame the culprits.
So far, 12 persons have reportedly been arrested by the office and granted bail as investigations continue. |
