Former
National Youth Organizer of the Convention People's Party (CPP), James
Kwabena Bomfeh has implored Executive Members of the Public Utilities
Regulatory Commission (PURC) to resign from their post, for dereliction
of duties.
According to him, the PURC is not only mandated to
ensure a reduction or an increase in utility tariffs but to also serve
as a check on the activities of the energy providers.
Speaking on
Oman FM, the CPP activist recounted the failures of the Commission,
claiming it has failed to regulate the energy service providers.
A couple of weeks ago, the PURC announced new changes in utility tariffs, indicating 78.9% on electricity and 52% on water.
The tariff adjustments have since courted controversy as some political figures and Ghanaians have kicked against it.
