A
leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Sarpong has
stridently kicked against the proposal by his colleagues for an early
congress to be held to elect a flagbearer for the party.
Contributing
to a panel discussion programme on Oman Fm, he averred that the party
will be exerting an "unnecessary pressure" on any candidate elected come
2016.
To him, it is seemingly too early for such issues to be
broached by the party executives because an early congress will not curb
the internal corruption and crises confronting the party.
He
disclosed that during such elections, the aspirants tend to offer gifts
to the electorates to woo them and also, other inappropriate things are
done to win the flagbearership.
He therefore bemoaned, among
other things, the failures of the party which, to him, must be first
addressed, calling on the rank and file of the NPP to “seek ye the
political kingdom first, then everything else will follow...For this
reason, we won’t accept that proposal. My solution is that these things
that we have identified, we must find a better method of preaching to
them the party policy and principles.” |
