Saturday, May 9th 2015 marked the 14th anniversary of one of Ghana's most tragic events in the history of the nation's sporting activities.
Over 120 football fans lost their lives when the police fired tear-gas in the midst of football fans at a Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak match.
In retrospect, Deputy National Communications Director of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Kwaku Boahene has called on Ex-President J.A Kufour and the previous NPP government to account for the lives of the football fanatics.
He has admonished the erstwhile Kufour government to render an account on the "huge monies that accrued to the Stadium Disaster Fund."
According to him, former President Kufour cannot absolve himself from blame and should not be left off the hook since such whopping amounts were raised for families of the victims.
"Saturday was May 9th; let us remember the victims of that disastrous event and continue to commiserate with the families of the victims. But more importantly, let's ask Kufour and Jake to account for the huge monies that accrued to the Stadium Disaster Fund," he told Adom FM Monday morning.
Kwaku Boahene further implored Prof. Kwesi Yankah, President of Central University College and the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Prof Emmanuel Martey to heap coals on the heads of former President Kufour and the former NPP Chair, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey to cough up the monies.
"Prof Yankah, IEA, Prof Martey and co should come out and ask Kufour & Jake to render account since the families of the victims are crying for help. If they are saying the Flagstaff House is corrupt; was Kufour's Presidency not more corrupt?" - Mr. Boahene queried. |
