The Progressive People’s Party National Secretary,
Kofi Asamoah Siaw has called on the Electoral Commission to outlaw political
parties that fail to comply with its established laws.
He cited parties such as CPP, GCPP, PNC and the UFP
as flouting the rules and regulations of the EC and questioned why they still
operate as political parties.
“They are parties that are supposed to open offices
in two thirds of the constituencies or districts in Ghana. Why should you give
GCPP an opportunity to field a Presidential Candidate? GCPP, where is their
head office, where are their regional and constituency head offices.”
“GCPP, CPP, PNC and UFP they should respect us and
comply with the political party’s law and if they do not it means the EC has
allowed itself to be overwhelmed by comments by political parties.”
He spoke to Citi FM.
To him, such parties should conform to EC’s laws or
face expulsion from the political arena.
Meanwhile, the Youth Organizer of the People’s
National Convention (PNC), Abu Ramadan, says the PNC has been very useful in
the country’s democratic dispensation and has contributed immensely to the
politics in Ghana.
To him, the party is the only party aside the two
major parties – NDC and NPP- that has sustained a seat in Parliament.
He therefore stressed that the PNC “is the only
party that has been able to sustain a seat in Parliament and that tells the
country where the party stands in the political discourse of this country. So
the PPP should spare us and give us a break; I think it is very unnecessary and
for that matter very pedestrian.”
He insisted that “Regardless of whatever they think
the PNC has or hasn’t got on the ground, at least aside NDC and NPP, the only
party that has real contribution when it comes to our democratic dispensation,
in terms of our legislation, is the PNC.”
