We want the evidence to be water tight – Nana Akomea

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stressed that their investigations into the alleged electoral fraud will be a shocker to Ghanaians as the party has gathered evidence proving that some electoral figures that placed the ruling National Democratic Congress on top in the polls were inaccurate.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Sunday, Nana Akomea, Director of NPP Communication team indicated that results for about 20000 polling stations have been successfully scrutinized by the party and so, the party currently has enough evidence to proceed to the law court.

The party has declined conceding defeat in the December polls due to their claims that the elections were rigged to put President John Dramani Mahama first in the Presidential race.

According to the party, “The results were declared on Sunday 9th of December and we have up to the end of December to present our petition. We know that there is expectation for us to present the petition immediately but we believe that the evidence that we are gathering is so overwhelming that we want to present the evidence in the fullest of details. As you keep looking at the calculations, you discover more and more irregularities and more and more abnormalities.”

Nana Akomea noted that the party is piecing together “water tight” evidence to buttress their allegations that the elections were rigged to the advantage of the National Democratic Congress.

He explained that “We have to present evidence that will leave the court in no doubt whatsoever that they have to uphold our case. We want the evidence to be water tight. So we have teams who are doing the collation, double checking and teams that are triple checking. These are basically auditing teams of young people who are doing the calculations and the second stage auditing and third stage auditing to make sure that the case is tight.”

He continued: “Now to the timeline, what the rule states is that the defendant presumably the EC will have 10 days to respond and after they have responded the court is enjoined to start hearing after 5 days. So assuming we file on the 30th the defendant presumably the EC will have 10 days so if they file in 10 days which will take us to the 10th of January and then after they have filed the supreme court is enjoined to start hearing In 5 days which will take us to the 15 of January so basically 15th to the 16th of January we expect that the case will start.”

The NPP will on Tuesday stage a massive demonstration in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, to register their protest against the 2012 Presidential results.
