The Muslim Community over the weekend gathered at
the residence of the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama, former Vice President of the
Republic of Ghana to perform the final funeral rites which occurs after forty
days.
The late Aliu Mahama died at the cardiothoracic
canter of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on Friday November 16, 2012, while
receiving treatment.
He was 66 years.
Muslim prayers were said for the departed former
vice president led by the National Chief Imam, Dr Osman Nuhu Sharubutu and
other eminent Imams of the Muslim Community in Ghana.
The late former Vice President served under the
former President John Agyekum Kufour’s administration for a two term making him
the longest serving Vice President in the fourth Republic of Ghana.
Sheikh Armiyawo Shaibu, Imam, Darisalam Mosque,
where the late former Vice President worshiped, described him as a sincere
Muslim who performed his Islamic duties on earth with much perfection to his
ability.
He said the late leader was a man who promoted the
actual unity of the Muslim Community for national development.
“He led a life worth emulating,” he said.
Former President Kufour, also described his former
colleague as a man with multidimensional qualities for which he choose him to
work with him as the Vice President of the country.
He said the man Aliu Mahama, brought with him into
the political circles the fear of the Lord of Allah, which enable him to work
perfectly in serving his family and country.
He called on the Muslim leaders to continue to pray
for his soul to rest in perfect peace.
Former President Kufour donated an amount of GH?
2,000 to the family and GH? 500 to the National Chief Imam for continuous
Muslim prayers for the depart soul.
Personalities present at the function included the
New Patriotic Party functionalist made up of the leader of the party Nana
Akufo-Addo, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, Kwadwo Mpiani, K.T.
Hammond and Mrs. Gladys Asmah, also present was a representative from
Government, representing the President John Dramani Mahama, led by Alhaji
Iddrisu Mahama, Member of Council of State.
