Pensioners raise red flags over their pension pays
Some pensioners have bemoaned government’s delay in implementing the Pensions Act.
The Act when implemented is believed to check some inconsistencies associated with the money paid out to pensioners in the country.
The pensioners have raised concerns over the delay by government to effect the Act, which according to them, would ensure an increment in their meagre stipend.
They emphasized that their pension sums have not seen any upward adjustment since the year 2009.
Some pensioners in an interview with Citi FM, explained “My pension at the moment is GHC 170. What am I going to do with GHC 170? I am even lucky since what I am taking is much, much more than what some people take. Some people take just about GHC 100 a month; I mean it’s not fine.”
A pensioner also disclosed the inconsistencies that have since characterized the pension money paid to them after retirement saying “there are so many mistakes. Some retired staff were not paid at all, some were reduced, the rate they were going was heavily reduced.”
