Immigration officers lament over special voting

Some Immigration officers at Sampa in the Jaman North District of the Bono Ahafo region have expressed resentment over decision by the Electoral Commission (EC) to disallow them from exercising their franchise in Tuesday’s special voting exercise.

25 Immigration officers were turned down by the Electoral Commission today after their names could not be found in the voters’ register.

The aggrieved officers explained that the only option given to them by the EC is for them to vote on Friday, December 7.

This they say, will pose a problem to them since they will have to travel long distances to their polling centres which may be far from their duty posts.

Earlier before the commencement of the voting exercise, according to an officer, their senior officers requested they submit their Voter ID cards and names.

The officers therefore wondered why their names were not in the register.
