NPP supporters hit the streets in protest

Crowd of aggrieved supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have poured out in their numbers on the streets of Accra on Tuesday in protests against the December polls.

The disgruntled supporters hit the streets at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra to object to the electoral results. They believe the results have been characterized by certain inconsistences and point out to electoral fraud.

President-elect John Dramani Mahama was on Sunday pronounced winner in the elections, though the opposition party outlined some discrepancies in the election results.

The NPP claims some results were bloated in some polling stations, hence giving the National Democratic Congress a leap over them.

The leadership and executives of the party since last Saturday have been displeased with the electoral process and asked the Electoral Commission (EC) to rectify the anomalies.

A peace meeting was held by the EC among leading members of the NPP and NDC before the results were later announced to the nation.

NPP lost by 47.74% with 5,248,848 votes whilst the President-elect John Mahama jumped to the top spot with 50.70%.

Thousands of supporters clad in party paraphernalia converged at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle agitating and chanting party slogans.

They accused the EC of conniving with the NDC to rig the elections.

Security patrol teams paraded the area to ensure law and order.
