Former Veep, Alhaji Aliu Mahama is dead
Former Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, has died at the Korle Bu hospital on Friday morning.
He was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital a couple of weeks ago following an undisclosed illness.
His condition was said to have been critical and so, he was put on life-support.
Doctors attending to the Former Vice had earlier indicated that he would be flown out of the country for treatment but he died this morning, November 16, at age 66.
Alhaji Aliu Mahama, born on 3 March 1946, became Vice to President John Agyekum Kufuor from 7 January 2001 to 7 January 2009.
He contested the flag-bearership position of the New Patriotic Party in 2008 at the party's Delegates' Congress on December 2007 but came 4th in the race.
He obtained 146 votes representing 6.38% of the total votes cast by over 2,000 delegates that participated in the congress.
I express my condolences to the bereaved family.
