We leave it for God; We won’t release original tape – I.C.G.C
The International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) has declined to release the original audio tape of its General Overseer; Dr. Mensah Otabil, which has become the heat of the day.
Dr. Mensah Otabil is quoted to have remarked that free education is not feasible and that any politician who makes such a promise is throwing dust in the eyes of the people.
An audio tape containing his voice which spells out his reasons supporting his claims about the infeasibility of free education has recently triggered reactions from the length and breadth of the country.
Though he has since dissociated himself from the partisan interest of the ruling National Democratic Congress and asked the party to refrain from using him as a focal point to promote their political ambitions, some political figures have bashed and challenged him to set the records straight.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, November 12, Dr. Otabil strongly implored President John Mahama to enjoin his surrogates and party officials to desist from touting his sermons for political gains.
This has therefore stirred public agitations and outcry demanding that the church spews out exactly the original words of Dr. Mensah Otabil.
But according to a Senior Associate Pastor of I.C.G.C, Rev Kofi Okyere who spoke to Citi FM, the church will not be compelled to take any action that will complicate issues.
He however maintained that Dr. Mensah Otabil has been treated unfairly by the ruling NDC.
To him, “The simplicity of the matter is that they are using Doc’s [Otabil] voice without permission. He doesn’t want his voice being used like that so we are asking them to stop it.”
“Now they are making it seem that he [Otabil] has no integrity and is a coward. That is not fair. Just stop using it.”
Rev Okyere further added that “If they don’t want to stop, it’s up to them. They can do whatever they want. We will not take it to court. We leave it for God.”
“The onus does not lie on us to bring the tape. We don’t want to go back and forth with this. Don’t use it and you are insulting him. It’s not fair. The fact that he has produced an album and it is being sold on the market doesn’t mean anyone can use it anyhow. We think they are not using it well and should quit it.”
