The National Petroleum Authority has assured users
of the liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) that there will be constant supply of the
gas throughout the Christmas season.
The Authority explained that from now to Christmas,
there will be no shortages in the supply of the gas.
This arrangement is a collaboration between the
Ministry of Energy and Fuel trade, a bulk distribution company.
This declaration is certainly a relief to LPG users
who have toiled for several weeks to fill their gas cylinders.
The National Petroleum Authority has so far
delivered 1800 tonnes of LPG to Takoradi in the Western Region to complement
the supply of the product in the area.
The authority expects a vessel to arrive soon to
augment the quantity of gas in the country and this according to the Public
Relations Director, Yaro Kassambata, will curb the perennial shortages in the
supply of the product.
He spoke to Joy FM.
He recounted: “For this one, the moment the vessel
arrives and the truck is well-positioned, it will receive the gas and take it
to town. And so we’re looking to do this every week or maximum on a bi-weekly
basis to ensure that we can put onto the market more LPG than the consumer even
need, so you can eliminate the backlog of supply and resume the normal consumption
rate.”
Mr. Kassambata also explained that the long-term
goal of the Authority is to complete work on two gantries with storage
facilities at Tema to increase the production of the gas on daily basis.
“We’re hoping to complete this by the end of the
first quarter next year with the Ghana Gas Company also promising to complete
their work by the end of the year. So more gas for consumers because the
challenges would not exist in a couple of months” he said.
The Aboadze thermal plant at Takoradi is also
expected to produce 1800 to 2000 metric tonnes of Liquified Petroleum Gas.
