NDC dismisses independent candidates
The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed all members of the party contesting the parliamentary seats in the elections 2012 as independent candidates. NDC Deputy Secretary in-charge of Operation, George Lawson, said the independent members are dismissed with immediate effect. "I’m yet to be furnished with the number of people who are still adamant or people who have rescinded their decision. But the fact is those who have not rescinded their decision, they cease to be members of our party. We don’t need to inform them [Independent candidate], the directive has been given." Prior to the parliamentary elections, some NDC dissidents made a decision to contest not on the ticket of the party due to what they perceive to be unfair treatment by the party in the primaries. They have declared to contest the seats independently but executives of the party have issued a week ultimatum to the independent candidates to rescind their decision or be dismissed. Some independent members have since rescinded their decision but the membership of those still contesting independently has been revoked. Source: ADU GYAMFI AMEYAW
