Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan, has declared that a breakdown of the verification machine will call for the suspension of the voting exercise.
The verification system is to eliminate any election fraud that may ruin the voting process in the elections on December 7.
The system is intended to enhance credibility and eradicate any unnecessary confrontations in order to hold peaceful elections.
Speaking to senior journalists on Thursday, the EC Chairman disclosed that the verification system has been enshrined in the laws governing the elections and without it; the regulation of the elections will be compromised.
In the light of this, Dr. Afari Gyan, says the absence of the verification system will mean no voting come December.
According to him, “no verification machine, no voting”, so, the EC would make available back-up machines to complement the ones that will be sent to the polling stations. Prior to the elections, the Electoral Commission has announced that the already existing 23,000 polling stations across the country have been increased to over 26,000 with each station having an average of 700 voters. About 14 million eligible voters are expected to engage in the elections this year.
