Supreme Court Dismisses 45 Constituencies Suit

The Supreme Court has dismissed a case filed against the Electoral Commission (EC) challenging its constitutional basis for establishing additional 45 constituencies to the existing 230.

The Greater Accra Bar President, Frank Davies, sued the EC for creating 45 more constituencies before the commencement of the December 7 elections.

He argued that CI 78 which authorizes the EC cannot be effected till the next administration where Parliament will be dissolved.

He therefore prayed the court to place an injuction on the creation and inclusion of the new constituencies in the elections but by a unanimous decision, the court has dismissed his appeal. The Judges viewed that his position was misconceived.
