National House of Chiefs denies bribery allegations

National House of Chiefs has dismissed claims that the ruling National Democratic Congress’ distribution of cars to the house is a form of inducement for the government to win the sympathy of the chiefs come December.

12 Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles were presented by President John Mahama on Tuesday to the Regional and National Houses of Chiefs to assist them in their activities.

This move by the government has been slammed by some political figures in the opposition New Patriotic Party who believe the presentation is an attempt by the governing party to induce the chiefs.

Speaking in an interview on Multi TV, the Vice President of the National House of Chiefs, Awulae Attibrukusu III, disabused Ghanaians of the wrongful impression put out in the public domain. According to him, the presentation was borne out of the house’s appeal to government to extend a helping hand to them to assist them in their activities.

He alluded to similar presentations by the previous Kufour administration where Mitsubishi Pajero vehicles were given to the house. Paramount Chief of Lower Axim Traditional Area in the Western Region also discounted claims that President John Mahama made some donations in cash to the chiefs.
